Namaste!

Mostly happy, energetic and determined to make a difference.

Thank you for stopping by my portfolio. My name is Karishma Deole.  I am originally from Mumbai, India. I recently moved from the Bay Area to Bristol, UK.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design from Mumbai, India and a Master’s in Marketing and Management from Nottingham, UK. In Fall 2020, I completed my certificate in User Experience/User Interface Design at the UC Berkeley Extension (UCBE).

While working for a startup e-commerce clothing company after completing my Masters, I developed a keen interest in UX/UI Design which offered immense possibilities. Even though I was hired as a Production Manager, most of my work ended up being as an in-house information architect for the website. Drawing on my creative thinking skills, I helped restructure the Information Architecture of the website based on buyer behaviour on a daily basis. That experience led me to think about how I can bring my creative skills into the technology sector and  become a creative technologist.

I am very passionate about designing elegant solutions for everyday and finding the right balance between technology and design in all my projects. While interning at a healthcare startup based in California, I realised that I particularly enjoy conducting user research and designing appropriate interfaces. This is because it utilises my strength of understanding user psychology built over 5 years of co-founding a clothing brand creating suitable designs matching client tastes.

My Design Philosophy
EMPATHY.
I strongly believe in Mike Marukkula’s philosophy, that empathising with your user results in the most effective solution.
SIMPLICITY.
I aim for creating simple meaningful solutions that simultaneously reduce cognitive load on the users and help them achieve their goals quickly and more efficiently.
BALANCE.
I strongly believe that to live a truly balanced and fulfilling life, all material comforts must be enjoyed in moderation while an excess of any leads to imbalance. Just like in life, I endeavour to incorporate this philosophy into all my design projects and strive for balance.
